RAMP
Guidelines

Dear Apprentices, Mentors, and Industry Partners,

I’m pleased to share this overview of the Retention Apprentice Mentoring Program
(RAMP) along with our core program guidelines. This document outlines the foundation
of our work, including our mission and vision, core strategies, roles and responsibilities,
and expected outcomes.

RAMP is a community-driven initiative committed to helping apprentices in the skilled
trades succeed. We provide mentorship, career guidance, and essential resources that
support personal and professional growth. Our program is rooted in workforce
development and equity, with a strong focus on mentorship and advocacy. We strive to
ensure that all apprentices—especially those from underrepresented and disadvantaged
backgrounds—receive the support and encouragement needed to complete their training
and build lasting careers.

A key focus of our work is addressing the high dropout rate among African American
apprentices in California, where nearly 47% exit their programs within the first year.
These apprentices often face systemic challenges, a lack of mentorship, and limited
access to supportive networks. RAMP is working to change that reality by offering
culturally responsive mentorship, structured retention strategies, and meaningful access
to support services.

In addition to individual mentorship, RAMP bridges the gap between apprentices,
journey-level workers, and industry leaders. Our program helps foster connections,
reduce isolation, and promote long-term success in the trades. Through one-on-one
guidance, professional development workshops, and trusted partnerships, we support
apprentices in staying engaged, overcoming barriers, and advancing their careers.
RAMP is designed to provide more than just support—it is built to create pathways. Our
network of mentors, partners, and community-based organizations works together to
ensure every apprentice has access to mentorship, resources, and a strong foundation
for success. Whether facing financial, educational, or systemic obstacles, we are
committed to helping every apprentice stay on track and reach their full potential.
Thank you for being part of this work. Together, we are building stronger trades, stronger
communities, and a stronger future.

Warm regards,
The RAMP Team
